Monthly Archives: August 2010

The PLAN

August 31 fridge

Sunday the Hubby said, “What exactly is the plan?”

I said, “Don’t spend any money in September!”

My extra food storage beyond the pantry

Lol, but really there are a few “points”

*Spring and Summer are very fruitful for our businesses, winter is one extreme or the other 🙂

*Save money for the slow times and build up our savings, kids college, and vacation accounts

*Learn new habits, like free activities, cooking dinner every night, having people over vs going out, analyzing our income vs. expenses

*Sell STUFF!!! Like the 3 very nice living room sets (we have 1 living room)

I hope you enjoy watching our little experiment 🙂

Last Day of August- Mixed emotions

Last vacation to San Antonio, just me and the kiddos

August has been a wirl wind month. There was VBS, vacations, school shopping and of course school for all 3 kids. My oldest is in Elementary, middle in Pre-school and the baby is in MDO 2 days a week.

Here are a few things we have done to get ready for “Spend Free September”
*Grocery shopping- total spending was $430.00 for the month of August not bad for a family of 5
*I need to “fill up” the car tonight
*I have paid all of our monthly bills for September, ie. gas, water, electric, preschool, dance
Anything left unpaid, will be paid in October, ie. Cars, house- they are due on 23rd so they will be 7 days late, still in the grace period
*Let the house keeper “go” for the month, we’ll miss you Rosie! (she comes 2xmonth)
*Kids got hair cuts,($10 each) hopefully the Hubby goes tonight or he’ll be really shaggy for October (he is usually pretty shaggy)
*ordered diapers from Amazon.com 2 boxes of 176, one for $.53 and one for $10.53 shipped
*Had our “last meal” out on the 30th at C@sa Ole, 99 cent kids meals
*Ordered vinyl and transfer tape for my cricut, gotta have something to do 🙂

First Day of School 2010

Kroger Deals 8/11/10- 8/17/10

Here are the deals for Kroger for the week of 8/11/10-8/17/10

Thank you HotCouponWorld

I have updated the pricing to reflect My Houston Area Store

The most important thing to know is most Krogers will only take 3 of each coupon, so sometimes you have to mix them up by printing different varieties, or mixing printables and newspaper.  If you don’t get the newspaper, there are tons of clipping services and ebay.

Save $4 wyb any combination of 8 participating items.

This means, in order to get the listed price, you must by in quantities of 8, not 8 of each particular item, but eight of the participating items.  (Suggestion: I usually put 8 extra Powerades in my basket, I have the cashier hit total before the powerades and then after each one, until it takes off another $4.  This way I know that I have bought in quantities of 8 and take full advantage of the sale, plus the Hubby loves his drinks)

Also, you can combine a loadable card coupon, ie. Kroger e-coupons, cellfire and shortcuts/ with a printable or newspaper coupon.

How do I?

Hello Blog world, Here is my first shot at this…

I have decided that my family is going to have a spend free September.  That means no eating out, no shopping (I have not decided if I will be able to do my deals), no candy from machines, no drink stops, no nothing.

But… I have not decided how exactly to put this into motion.

During the rest of August, I am going to set dome goals and analyze our past spending.  Hopefully we will be able to put a nice wad of cash into savings.

I need to decide what I need to stockpile and what I will allow to be purchased during September.  Like milk, bread, fresh fruit, etc.  How will I pay for these items?  Will I alow a budget or will I need to return things or barter with friends/ family?

Ahhh and my deals.  It seems silly not to stockpile the September deals at Walgreens and CVS.  Should I only do freebies and money makers?  Could I use my money makers for milk and bread?

So, I am depending on all of the blog world to help me out.  I need suggestions on how to make September work and how to make this blog more functional, ie what is a widget?  and how do you use it, lol
